Program                 August 23, 2011 at 1:30 p.m. ORCHID HANDOUT                     MARK PENDLETON   Manager of Brookside Orchids   Orchids Cymbidium         Mark has been an orchid grower first as a hobbyist and then for 27 years, in a commercial environment. He has been a contributing photographer for Orchids, the journal of the American Orchid Society and several of his photographs appear in Ultimate Orchids, a collaborative book produced by the Society with the Smithsonian Institute. He has given talks to orchid societies across the United States and Canada and has created and registered over 200 new orchid hybrids.   Cymbidium           Brookside Orchids in Portola Valley, near Stanford University, began as a a wholesale supplier and in 1996 added boarding facilities for orchids. Now they are also a retail nursery and grow popular orchids as well as the more rare species. In their seven greenhouses the plants receive the correct balance of water, fresh air, and indirect sunlight to produce their beautiful flowers.               Guests are welcome.
